New Trail Rides In 2013

I had a great year of discovering new trail systems. I can’t wait to ride these trails again in 2014 and add another set of new trails to the list.  I’m not going to turn this post into a trail review, but just want to share the new trails that I was able to ride this year.  Please contact me if you have any questions about these trails and leave a comment if you have ridden these trails in the past.  I will start with my favorites.

Copper Harbor Trails – Copper Harbor, MI

I was able to ride Copper Harbor twice in 2013.  This is an awesome trail system to ride with many different types of riding.  Copper Harbor is now an IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) Silver Ride Center.  I will definitely return to ride Copper Harbor again, especially since they are working on a new Keweenaw Point trail.

Cuyuna Lakes – Crosby, MN

This is another set of great trails that offer all types of riding.  I spent an entire day here, trying to ride all of the different trails and still was not able to hit all of them. Cuyuna Lakes is now an IMBA Bronze Ride Center.  I will make it a point to go back and ride Cuyuna Lakes again in 2014.

Lebanon Hills – Eagan, MN

I will return back here as this was a great trail for the family.  The short loop was perfect for my 5 year old and my wife and kids were able to hang out at the trail head on the skills course while I went for a longer ride.

Maasto Hiito and Churning Rapids – Hancock, MI

I rode out here a couple times in college, but the trail system has grown and not much of it was recognizable to me, so I had to consider it a new trail system for me this year.  I will be back in 2014, especially since it is so close to family.

Woolly – St. Croix Falls, WI

Great local trail that improved each time I rode it.  I’ll be back riding Woolly again in 2014.

Hanson Hills – Grayling, MI

I finally had the opportunity to ride here.  I am from Michigan originally and had always wanted to ride this trail, but had never gotten around to it.  I’m glad I did, it was a nice set of trails that you could carry some good speed on.  I was also able to get my son out on the trail for a couple of miles.

Elm Creek – Champlin, MN

This trail ride was the most memorable for me as it was the first trail ride for my 5 year old son.  We did the small green loop which was about 2.5 miles.

Michigan Tech Trails – Houghton, MI

I rode these trails all thru college, but they are completely different now. There was only a couple short sections that were recognizable, so I had to consider them a new trail system for me this year.

Human Powered Trails – La Crosse, WI

My kids enjoyed the little pump track near the parking area.  This trail system has a ton of potential.  There is some great terrain and there is not much other mountain biking in the area.

Rock Lake – Cable, WI

I went specifically to ride the IMBA Epic Loop.

What new trails did you ride this year?
