Training Peaks – I have both a coaches account for coaching and selling training plans and then I also use an athlete premium account for my own activities. The coaches account comes with 1 coach paid athlete premium account, so that covers my own personal account. I think Training Peaks is a fantastic tool and piece of software if you want to dig into your training data and plan workouts around your race schedule. There are a ton of tools and the new workout builder was a huge step forward.
Strava – I post my rides on Strava, but no longer pay for the premium version after using Training Peaks. Strava is a great social tool and offers some basic workout analysis tools. If you’re doing any type of jogging, running or biking; I would go ahead and start logging it on Strava. If you don’t have any GPS type device, then you can record your workouts with the Strava phone app itself. This is how I recorded rides before I started using a Garmin device. I do find the segments fun sometimes and useful for planning interval workouts.
My Fitness Pal – I created an account quite awhile ago, but never really used it till now. I’m actually only a couple weeks in and I think it’s a great tool. Whether you are trying ot set some specific goals with it or not, it doesn’t matter. It’s a great tool, just to get an idea of what your current nutrition balance looks like. Mine was off from what I really thought it was and tool has been great to give me a better idea of my serving sizes and amounts of food. I’ve even gotten my kitchen scale out since logging my food intake. I highly recommend using this for at least a little bit to get a better idea of what you are putting into your body.
Intervals – Interval Workout Timer – This is a great little interval timer app. You can easily create workouts in Training Peaks to load to your Garmin or other device, but if you haven’t done that yet or don’t use Training Peaks. This is a simple tool where you can create time interval workouts really quick, so you don’t have to watch the clock during your workout.
